Even Phangan was initially discovered by backpacking hippies about 22 years ago, Phangan was already inhabited as long as 2000 years ago by sea gypsies coming from the area today called malaysia. Koh Phangan was a few years later targeted by chinese refugees coming from Hainan fleeing the economic hardship in their country. There are loads of ways to get around the island, you can take a local taxi cab for a small amount of money,or you are able to drive you can hire a quad or motor bike and do it in your own time. The only exemption from the otherwise relaxed and quite island is the Full Moon Party Beach when the east side of Haad Rin transforms to a dance floor constructed of sand. If you don't want to participate or even listen to the music, do not worry on Kohpangan are a lot natural spots, that are not hard to find like mountains, viewpoints and waterfalls. For many people Fullmoon Party is one of the local attractions on the island. In average 8.000 visitors rush to the island every month if only to experience the Full Moon Party. Phangan is a relaxed oasis in the Gulf of Thailand with some of the best beaches found in South Thailand. Loding in a budget resort or beachside hotel to very reasonable prices. You can see several amazing places on Phangan. Had Rin Nok, Had Kuat, Koh Maa and Thong Nai Pan are a few of the most interesting ones.
